Short-term and Long-term Internships

Apart from the international voluntary service, we also offer internships in Hong Kong upon request that are mainly self-funded. Applicants from all countries are welcome and distributed to several working positions depending on their skills, interests, and time of stay and live, work, experience, understand, and learn together with the international interns in Hong Kong.

INTERNSHIP

These relatively flexible internships in mainland China and Hong Kong are ideal for a gap year, semester break, the period between a career change and many other situations. The period is variable and can last two to twelve months, depending on the partner YMCA. This program has the need for a higher personal contribution.

You will have to pay the following costs:

  • Round-trip tickets to the location / partner YMCA
  • Visa costs for mainland China and possibly Hong Kong
  • International health insurance during your entire stay abroad
  • Other personal expenses (vaccinations, etc.)

Each partner YMCA can support the interns financially in different ways, from accommodation to full on-site care, so that there are no additional costs apart from private expenses.

OUR TRAINING AIMS

  1. Promote the concept of global citizenship among young people through Raising youth awareness of global issues through their commitment to a sustainable development in local communities;
  2. Promotion of cultural understanding through cultural and historical exposure and study;
  3. Offer opportunities for mutual exchange between different cultures;
  4. Developing an adequate work attitude among students and improving their employability in their future career;
  5. Give students the opportunity to develop their leadership, communication skills and to develop their sense of responsibility and their unique potential explore;
  6. To act as a platform on which friendships between different countries are based all over the world.

WHAT WE EXPECT

  • A high degree of initiative Get involved in the Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong and incorporate its programs into your leisure activities
  • The desire or at least the willingness to incorporate the gospel and Christian values ​​into programs and to help people to discover and develop their faith

  • Willingness to take part in additional measures such as small groups, individual discussions and workshops
  • Commitment to your internship beyond the service itself (preparations before departure, possible language course, follow-up)
Engagement

FRAMEWORK CONDITIONS

The CYMCA has worked with foreign partners on the basis of a bilateral agreement to accept and deploy young people for internships for a period of 4 to 8 weeks.

  • Participation from the age of 18
  • Participation requires 40 hours of internship per week
  • Work-related transport costs and meals during the working day are covered
  • Interns are responsible for obtaining a valid visa (if required), round-trip air tickets, travel insurance, and other personal expenses

    ACTIVITIES AND POSSIBLE PROGRAMS

The International & Mainland Affairs Section of the CYMCA coordinates this program and liaises with the CYMCA service units in order to deploy the appropriate interns according to their talents and interests.

 

These are possible positions of the CYMCA for interns abroad:

  • Holiday camp programs and activities
  • Programs for kindergartens, elementary schools, and secondary schools
  • International school programs
  • Administrative work in the office
  • Working at The Cityview & The Harbourview Hotel
  • Programs for sports and leisure centers
  • Integrated team programs for children and young people
  • Rehabilitation and senior programs

2 - 12 months internship
Period: 2-12 months
Location: Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong, Hong Kong SAR China; YMCA Guangzhou, YMCA Chengdu, China;

Target group: young and young at heart adults

Areas of work: Service center of the Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong, YMCA Guangzhou or YMCA Chengdu

Accommodation: Internship apartments of the respective YMCA with WiFi

Costs: round-trip flight tickets to the scene, visa costs, travel insurance and other personal expenses

Support: Different depending on the location / YMCA;

Possible support: accommodation costs, food costs, work-related transport costs, pocket money, mobile phone costs, etc.
